MINT is excited to present "Reimagined Past".
"Reimagined Past" features Raphaëlle Bertran Pinheiro and Kuldeep Singh, both of whom engage deeply with historical narratives through their unique artistic practices.
Kuldeep Singh, a multi-disciplinary artist, focuses on deconstructing and reconstructing cultural narratives via his paintings and performances. He brings a queer and ecological perspective to traditional ragamala paintings from 16th-18th century Central India, highlighting how cultural history shapes contemporary identity.
Raphaëlle Bertran Pinheiro, on the other hand, approaches her work through the lens of narrative fragmentation. Her paintings serve as imprints where the familiar becomes foreign and potentially unsettling. Using a mix of oil and spray paint, she juxtaposes elements of the sacred with the grotesque, allowing for a dialogue between contrasting forces. Her artwork creates an out-of-time universe, reflecting on today's disasters while blurring the lines between intimacy and alienation.
Together, the artists’ works in "Reimagined Past" encapsulate a shared interest in exploring and re-envisioning history, inviting viewers to reconsider their understanding of the past in relation to the present.
The exhibition is on view from January 31 until March 8, 2025.
